A Brief Statement of What We Believe
Bible- The Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. It is the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried.
God- There is one and only one living and true God. He reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.
Man- Man is the special creation of God, made in His own image. In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator with freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God, brought sin to every man by nature and choice, and came under the wrath of God.
Salvation- Salvation is a supernatural act of God’s grace consisting of regeneration (a change of nature), justification (the removal of God’s wrath), and sanctification (a change of desire). Salvation is accomplished solely by Jesus Christ’s death on the cross and received by man through no work of his own. Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, came to earth to give His life on the cross to redeem sinful man. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
Church- All who are saved by faith in Christ’s atoning death are placed into one united, spiritual body called the church, of which Jesus Christ is the head.
Baptism and the Lord’s Supper- Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, and the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus.
The Lord’s Supper or Communion is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the
Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.
Family- God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. It is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood, or adoption. Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. The husband and wife are of equal worth before God, since both are created in God’s image.
Eternity- At death the saved person’s soul goes immediately into the presence of God for eternity (heaven); an unsaved person goes into an eternity of condemnation away from God’s presence (hell).
